The next installment of the “Security Series” offered by Security Operations and Services and ITS Training Services will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 3:30 to 4:30 pm both face-to-face in 508 Rider Building, University Park, and via a Meeting@PennState desktop videoconference. This session, entitled “Physical Security Controls for the Minimum Security Baseline (Category 7),” will be presented by Ed Smiley and Matt Soccio and is intended for a technical audience.
Each session of the Security Series in 2014 intended for a technical audience will involve the theme of the Minimum Security Baseline (MSB), a ten category guideline intended to help IT staff take measures to protect institutional data. The MSB ties in with the Data Categorization project that will soon be University-wide. There are a total of ten categories in the MSB and a Security Series session will be offered around each one. More information about the Data Categorization project can be found at http://datacat.psu.edu and the MSB can be reviewed at https://wikispaces.psu.edu/display/minimumsecuritybaseline/Minimum+Security+Baseline+Home.
This session will discuss Category 7 of the MSB that outlines physical and facility security measures that must be maintained. Ed and Matt will review what physical security controls are needed and how to ensure that data is being properly secured and in compliance with the MSB.
Objectives of this session:
- Brief overview of Data Categorization policy (AD71 – http://guru.psu.edu/policies/AD71.html) and Minimum Security Baseline guideline
- Learn how you can properly secure your physical locations
- Overview of Electronic Security and Access Systems policy (AD65 – http://guru.psu.edu/policies/AD65.html)
