Zoom Security Setting Recommendations

On and locked = on for the host by default, but they can turn on for all or individual meetings
Off and unlocked = off for the host by default, but they can turn on for all or individual meeting

Schedule Meeting
Join before host	On and unlocked	Turn this OFF and unlocked.	Participants receive a message that  they will be admitted when the host arrives. Hosts  can  enable Join before Host for  all meetings  or individual meetings.
Only authenticated users can join meetings	Off and unlocked	Turn on and Unlocked. Domain only PSU	Participants are required to  sign in  using their PSU  account. Hosts can turn this off for all meetings or individual meetings.
Require password for participants joining by phone	Off and unlocked	On and unlocked	Participants joining my phone will need the password to enter the meeting (Host must provide) Hosts can turn this off for all meetings or individual meetings.
Mute participants upon entry	Off and unlocked	Turn on and unlocked	Participants  are muted when entering a  meeting but  can unmute themselves. Hosts can turn this off before all or individual meetings, and/or during the meeting.
In Meeting (Basic)
Chat	On and unlocked	Turn off, unlocked	Participants will not be able to chat with other participants or the host. Hosts can  enable chat all or individual meetings, and/or during the meeting.
Private chat	On and unlocked	Turn off, unlocked	Participants will not be able to  use  private chat. Hosts can turn this on for all meetings or individual meetings.
Who can share?	All Participants and unlocked	Host Only and Unlocked	Only  hosts can share their screens. Host can  allow participants to  share before all or individual meetings, and/or during the meeting.
Annotation	On and unlocked	Off and unlocked	Participants cannot annotate during a Zoom meeting. Hosts can enable annotation for participants before all or individual meetings, and/or during the meeting.
Whiteboard	On and unlocked	Off and unlocked	Whiteboard cannot be shared. Hosts can enable for all meetings.
Allow participants to rename themselves	On and unlocked	Off and unlocked	Participants  cannot rename themselves in Zoom meetings. Hosts can turn this off before all or individual meetings, and/or during the meeting.
In Meeting (Advanced)
Virtual background	On and unlocked	Off and unlocked	Participants will not be able to use a virtual background. Host can turn this feature on before all or individual meetings, and/or during the meeting.
Identify guest participants in the meeting/webinar	Off and unlocked	On and unlocked	Names of guests appear in the Participant panel with an orange background OR with (Guest) after their names. Hosts can disable this setting for all meetings.
Waiting room	Off and unlocked	On and unlocked	Participants enter the Zoom meeting but are placed in a Waiting Room. Hosts can admit users individually or all at once. Hosts can turn this off before all or individual meetings, and/or during the meeting.
Webinar
Q&A in Webinar	On and unlocked	Off and unlocked	Participants will not be able to use Q&A in Webinars. Hosts can turn this on before or during the Webinar.
